HWSETA – Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority
The Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA) is one of South Africa’s Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs), established to facilitate skills development, education, and training within the health, social development, veterinary, and welfare sectors.
HWSETA partners with employers, training providers, government departments, and industry stakeholders to ensure that South Africa develops a highly skilled workforce capable of delivering quality services and contributing to sustainable economic growth.
Its core responsibilities include:
Developing sector skills plans aligned with industry needs.
Funding education and training programmes through grants and discretionary funding.
Accrediting and monitoring skills development providers.
Supporting learnerships, apprenticeships, internships, and bursary programmes.
Promoting workplace-based learning and continuous professional development.
Expanding access to quality education and lifelong learning opportunities.
Through these initiatives, HWSETA plays a vital role in strengthening South Africa’s health and welfare workforce while supporting national skills development priorities.

In addition to our SETA-aligned training programmes, Mahlori Group is accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) as a Skills Development Provider to offer specialised Occupational Health and Safety programmes. This accreditation is valid from 29 May 2026 to 28 May 2031.
